October 24, 2012 – In the context of the World Stroke Day, on October 30 and November 1, it is possible to have free neurologist’s consultations and dopplerography at the MFD Outpatient hospitals „Pardaugava”, „Ilguciems” and at the Outpatient hospital „Mozums-1”.
A stroke is the rapid loss of brain function(s) due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. This can be due to lack of blood flow caused by blockage (thrombosis, arterial embolism), or a hemorrhage. As a result, the affected area of the brain cannot function, which might result in an inability to move one or more limbs on one side of the body, inability to understand or formulate speech, or an inability to see one side of the visual field.
In case of a suspected stroke, an ambulance (telephone 113) must be called immediately! Delay means lost brain cells.
