March 6, 2013 – In the framework of the World Glaucoma Day, on March 12, MFD Healthcare Group invites to measure eye pressure free of charge to make sure that there is no risk for vision-threatening disease.
Glaucoma is an eye disease in which the optic nerve is damaged in a characteristic pattern. This can permanently damage vision in the affected eye(s) and lead to blindness if left untreated. It is normally associated with increased fluid pressure in the eye.
According to statistics, currently glaucoma is one of the major cause of blindness and bad vision. There are up for 100 million glaucoma patients in the world.
Early detection is crucial for successful treatment of glaucoma, but more than half of those who suffer from this disease are not aware of it.
It is very important to pay attention to eye health for those
who are subject to one or more risk factors:
• inheritance (family members with glaucoma, diabetes, coronary heart disease or
hypertension patients);
• age over 40 years;
• colored rings when look at the light source; "flies" in front of the eyes;
• visual discomfort while driving;
• eye pain in the morning, blurred vision;
• cold feet and hands, migraine;
• chronic stress;
• long working hours on the computer;
• smoking, alcohol consumption.
