Сolonoscopy


Colonoscopy is the endoscopic method for the evaluation of the large intestine using an optical device by entering it through the rectum to exclude or identify ulcers, polyps, inflammatory changes, bleeding areas and neoplasms. While performing colonoscopy, biopsy may be used (doctor may take tissue samples) to specify the changes in the intestinal wall(s). It is officially accepted screening method for early diagnosis of intestinal neoplasia. For this reason, a colonoscopy should be done from 50 to 75 years of age. 


To prepare for the colonoscopy, you need to:

  1. Buy 3 packets of «Fortran» (laxative to clean the intestinal tract before the examination).
  2. The day before, prior to examination, eat a light breakfast.
  3. The day before, prior to examination, starting from 12.00, do not eat anything.
  4. Prepare for examination according to the following scheme:
  • mix 1 packet with 1 liter of water (for a better taste you can add lemon juice) and from 12.00 until 14.00 drink mixture in small portions,
  • mix 1 packet with 1 liter of water (for a better taste you can add lemon juice) and from 14.00 until 16.00 drink mixture in small portions,
  • mix 1 packet with 1 liter of water (for a better taste you can add lemon juice) and from 16.00 until 18.00 drink mixture in small portions.
  1. Stop drinking the prepared mixture until 20.00.
  2. All medicines that are taken as usual should be used as prescribed.
  3. If you usually do in the morning, you can drink coffee or tea without additives.
  4. Come 15 to 20 minutes before the expected beginning of the examination to register at the reception.
