New eye examination method – optical coherence tomography (OCT) – is now available at the MFD Outpatient hospital «Dziednieciba»!
Optical coherence tomography is a modern method that is used for eye examination. During examination it’s possible to obtain a very high quality and resolution images of the retina and front of the eye – the cornea, iris, lens and anterior chamber angle. This examination is more accurate than other methods, so it is used for in-depth examination of the retina when doctor can't obtain sufficient information from the standard examination techniques.
OCT diagnostic advantages:
- allows to obtain images with an extended or slightly dilated pupils, which is especially important in diabetic patients, glaucoma patients, children and elders;
- quick examination – up to 15 minutes;
- non-invasive examination – without contrast agents;
- allows to examine the optic nerve and the retina at the same time;
- doesn't dazzle eyes;
- early disease diagnosis, etc.
Who needs OCT examination:
- patients with elevated eye pressure (ocular hypertension) – early diagnostics of glaucoma;
- patients with a high degree of nearsightedness and farsightedness;
- patients who experience difficulty in vision correction with glasses or lenses;
- patients with optic nerve and retinal changes (especially elders);
- diabetic patients (it’s possible to detect retinal changes at an early stage);
- neurological patients;
- contact lens users, for the health of the cornea and lens fit control;
- stenocardia patients and patients with heart stents;
- patients with low hemoglobin level in blood;
- patients with a tendency to high blood pressure;
- cancer patients.
