„Career week 2013” at MFD Healthcare Group

On the second week of October nine students of four Riga schools took part in „Career week 2013”, having an opportunity to get acquainted with the work of a medical institution and the doctor’s profession.In order to find out more about the necessary requirements for admission, on the first day young people met a representative of the Career Center of the Riga Stradins University.
Students watched a move about the university, telling about the learning process, from admission to graduation, and giving an insight into the new Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology, which modern equipment gives a real impression of the structure of the human body and helps to use this knowledge in practice.
Participants had an opportunity to find out about the history and structure of MFD Healthcare Group. A manager of the MFD Outpatient hospital “Pardaugava” Kristine Ozolina organized an excursion around the outpatient hospital.
On the second day the participants had individual meetings with doctors.
Eight specialists participated in „Career week 2013”:
•Ligita Neimane, a doctor of the MFD Day hospital and MFD Outpatient hospital “Ilguciems”, and a head nurse Elita Dzerina showed the premises of the day hospital, its equipment and a gynecological room of the MFD Women’s health center “Vita”.
•A traumatologist, orthopedist of the MFD Outpatient hospital “Pardaugava” Kaspars Viksna and an internist Irina Bakulina told about the peculiarities of their specializations, but physiotherapists Jelena Pucinska and Inese Roze demonstrated their everyday work with patients by inviting to take part in practical trainings.
•Outpatient hospital “Mozums-1” was represented by an otolaryngologist Inese Drike and a nurse Kristine Lavrenova.
On the last day of the „Career week 2013” the young people shared their impressions and experience gained during these days, discussing about the advantages and disadvantages of the profession.
A student Linda admitted, that becoming a doctor is not what she is eager to do in the future, however Ricards and Eva approved that they had done the right choice.
