Aspiration biopsy of superficially placed organs (usually the thyroid and mammary glands) is a procedure when, after anesthetizing the skin (at the puncture site) with a small needle, cells are taken for a special cytological examination

When conducting a study, a laboratory doctor (cytologist) can judge whether these are normal cells and correspond to harmless changes in the cells, or the cells are so much changed that we can talk about the presence of cancer cells in the test material.

If, according to the results of a previously performed ultrasonographic or X-ray examination, a radiologist suspects a possible malignant formation or formation, the nature of which needs to be clarified, the doctor in whose care the patient is (this may be a family doctor, gynecologist, oncologist, endocrinologist) sends this patient to an aspiration biopsy.
